DUSSEHRA CELEBRATION
The word "garba" comes from the Sanskrit word garbha, which means "womb". The dance symbolizes that God, represented in feminine form, is the only thing that remains unchanging in a constantly changing universe.
The dance is performed in a circle, with dancers moving counterclockwise around an image of the mother goddess Amba or a perforated earthenware pot lit with an oil lamp. Dancers use simple movements while singing and clapping their hands in unison.
